Our Story
Two Irish brothers moved to America and got into the bar business. Shocker, right? After living and working in restaurants and pubs all across the world, Ian and Robert Macken settled down in Decatur with their amazing wives, Kathryn and Stef. After talking and dreaming and scheming about it, the Mackens decided to open their own place with the goal of being THE neighborhood hangout. With immense help from several partners and friends, the Jaegers and Carlsons especially, Wheelhouse Craft Pub and Kitchen was born.

The building itself is steeped in local history, as it has been reincarnated as several different restaurants over the last few decades. Inside, Wheelhouse embodies the homey feeling of the local Irish pubs that the Mackens frequented in Dublin, but the updated decor lets you know you are still in Decatur. The menu features fun and creative dishes and flavors alongside classic pub fare. The drink list is tailored to focus on local beer and spirits with a hefty dose of Irish and European favorites too.

Before opening the door, Wheelhouse became a second home to the Macken family. As they open the doors to the public, they hope the neighbors embrace it as a home away from home as well.
